New 2022 degree – Bachelor of Climate Change

The University of Waikato’s Bachelor of Climate Change is a unique and flexible degree which will arm you with knowledge that transcends traditional subject areas to meet the growing demand for experts who will help solve this complex, global issue.

The degree allows students to become an expert in one of a wide range of different major subjects that are needed to develop effective climate change solutions.

Students will develop  a comprehensive understanding of climate change through the compulsory papers of the degree, including its scientific, social, cultural and economic dimensions. Mātauranga Māori is interwoven through the degree and students are taught the importance of valuing different worldviews when trying to develop authentic solutions to the challenges of climate change.

The degree culminates with a multidisciplinary group project, where students will work with an external organization to develop an effective low-carbon strategy. Students will graduate with skills and experiences that are in-demand, as we work towards a target of net zero emissions in Aotearoa by 2050.

This degree is the first of its kind in the world and combines scientific knowledge of the biophysical world with understanding of economic and political systems and the impacts on Māori, Pacific and Indigenous communities. Find out more: Here
