This scholarship is aimed at young Māori students who aspire to study towards a career in health. Tū Kahika students are supported into and through the University of Otago’s Foundation Year Health Sciences course. This is to prepare for further tertiary study the following year in either Health Sciences First Year (HSFY) or other health-related programmes. Up to 20 Māori students are selected for the Tū Kahika Scholarship each year.
Applications for the Tū Kahika pathways scholarship opened on 1 July 2021 and close on 15 August.
Tū Kahika students receive guaranteed accommodation in a Residential College, and financial assistance towards tuition fees and accommodation costs.
The main requirement is that students aspire to have a career in health. Studying science subjects at level 2 and 3, and involvement/interest in Te Ao Māori will strengthen their application.
